Gameboy macro shell 3d print12/31/2023 ![]() The ribbon cable for the top screen can sometimes be difficult to remove. Don't lose it! The DS Lite will not boot without it! However, the cable attached to it can be removed and left off. On the DS Lite, the WiFi board is plugged into a slot. On the original DS, the DS Phat, the WiFi board is soldered to the main board and cannot be removed. If you can't work it out, go ahead and clip it. The WiFi antenna cable is small and black, and runs under the DS slot. I ripped one apart on accident once, but it's not important since we won't need the touch screen for GBA games. The ribbon cable for the touch digitizer of the lower screen is tiny, and it's connector is very fragile. You'll also need to disconnect all the ribbon cables inside. There are a few screws on the inside that secure the main board, and you'll need to remove them. You remove the battery cover and battery, remove all the tri-wing screws, and open the case. I'm a fan of white with black accents, so I used a white primer topped with a few coats of a clear enamel, since that's what I had in my garage at the time.ĭisassembling the DS Lite is rather straight-forward. Coolest defcon badges12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() It's kind of like you leave behind a wake of information. "In theory," Clarke says, "it should be possible to figure out where we are by looking at the residual effect on other badges. ![]() Clarke's personal badge, as well as the badge of conference founder Jeff Moss, will also have an effect on other badges in their vicinity. The Goon badges, the red ones (above) with a scarab beetle on them, are designed to affect other badges as the goons pass conference attendees. This year, Clarke has added a new badge for artists, which will be handed out to the artists and musicians who will be performing or participating at the con. Clarke has embedded a crypto puzzle on the Uber badges that will only be revealed to badge recipients on Sunday - though they may decide to scan the puzzle and put it online. The badge gives the holder a lifetime of free admission to DefCon. The black box in the picture above conceals the Uber badge - Uber badges are the black badges given at the end of the conference each year to winners of the DefCon contests. "It will drive them to find someone from the other side of the house."Įach year, several badges are produced for different categories of conference attendees and participants - attendees get Human badges, and there are also badges for press, vendors, speakers and goons (the volunteers who are the core of DefCon, managing its network, security and speakers). "Those doing the hardware hacks will have to find someone to do the puzzle side," Clarke says. His plan is to force attendees with different skills to combine their talents to crack the badge's mysteries. See what we mean in this rundown of the coolest. But figuring out the badge's secrets requires hardware and software hacking skills, as well as puzzle and crypto acumen appealing to the math and language geeks in the crowd. All the badges OK, DEFCON Hacking Conference was amazing, and the badge makers took it to a whole new level. So this year he's designed an electronic badge that includes an embedded game. He felt that previous badges required hardware hacking skills that raised the bar too high for attendees whose talents were focused on software hacking. This year's badge, designed and produced by Ryan Clarke (aka LostboY, or LosT for short) continues that tradition, with some new twists.Ĭlarke, who's also the creator behind DefCon's annual Mystery Box Challenge, is a crypto and puzzle master who has been involved in DefCon for 13 years. As talks at the DefCon hacker conference have become increasingly sophisticated and technical over the con's two decades, the conference badge has evolved to keep pace, morphing from simple PVC and metal plates into electronic gizmos with chips, circuit boards and games begging to be hacked. ![]()

Winchester mystery house photos12/31/2023 ![]() I must have been hoping that the house would yield up its secret to me. ![]() I keenly anticipated my first visit to the Mystery House. Eventually, Winchester became the muse for my book on the history of the American gun industry and culture.Ī postcard showing the Winchester Mystery House circa 1900-05Ĭourtesy Flickr/ San Jose Public Library California Room When I heard her ghost story from a friend in graduate school, I was enthralled. Haunted by conscience over her gun blood fortune and seeking either protection or absolution, Winchester lived in almost complete solitude, in a mansion designed to be haunted. A relative said many decades later Winchester fell “under the thrall” of a medium, who told her that she would be haunted by the ghosts of Winchester rifle victims unless she built, non-stop-perhaps at ghosts’ direction, for their pleasure, or perhaps as a way to elude them. A spiritualist in the mid-1800s, when plenty of sane Americans believed they could communicate with the dead, Wincehster became terrified that her misfortunes, especially the death of her husband and one-month old daughter, were cosmic retribution from all the spirits killed by Winchester rifles. The answer: Her building is a ghost story of the American gun. In 1911, the San Jose Mercury News called Winchester’s colossus a “great question mark in a sea of apricot and olive orchards.” Over a century later, the San Francisco Chronicle was still baffled: “the Mansion is an ornately complex answer to a very simple question: Why?” She had apparently forgotten about it and built over it. It had two chairs, an early 1900s speaker that fit into an old phonograph, and a door latched by a 1910 lock. Winchester hastily sketched designs on napkins or brown paper for carpenters to build additions, towers, cupolas or rooms that made no sense and had no purpose, sometimes only to be plastered over the next day. She built her house with shifts of 16 carpenters who were paid three times the going rate and worked 24 hours a day, every day, from 1886 until Sarah’s death in 1922.Īn American Penelope, working in wood rather than yarn, Winchester wove and unwove eternally. After she moved from New Haven, Connecticut, to San Jose, Winchester dedicated a large part of her fortune to ceaseless, enigmatic building. Her father-in-law Oliver Winchester, manufacturer of the famous repeater rifle, died in 1880, and her husband, Will, also in the family gun business, died a year later. Winchester had inherited a vast fortune off of guns. ![]() In this provocative and deeply-researched work of narrative history, Haag fundamentally revises the history of arms in America, and in so doing explodes the clichés that have created and sustained our lethal gun culture. Brand element definition12/30/2023 ![]() It’s important to start with defining your mission, vision, and values because everything your company does (and every experience you deliver) should line up with your mission and values. Determine your mission, vision, and values New customers and existing customers alike can benefit from brand image-based social media programs, marketing, and creating a pitch to individual consumers’ interests on a large scale. This foundational work helps you to position yourself in the market and win the hearts of your target customers. To build a strong brand image, you’ll need to start with understanding who your brand is and what it stands for. We found in our Global Consumer Trends Report 2022 that more than 60% of consumers feel that businesses need to care more about them and that they’d actually buy more if they felt that care. It’s not just how businesses care for others, either – it’s about how they care directly for customers. This is particularly true in the post-pandemic world: 61% of people said that how a brand responded to the crisis would have a large impact on whether they’d keep their relationships with them afterwards. ![]() That means that, while you must interact with your customers, the quality of your interactions matters more than the quantity for brand perception. That was, by and large, the biggest driver, and only 13% cited frequent interactions as the primary reason for a relationship. In fact, a Harvard Business Review study found that 64% of consumers say that shared values is the primary reason they have a relationship with a brand. ![]() Today, many consumers (especially millennials and Generation Z) don’t buy your product or service simply because you have the best option, but because of what you stand for.
